The International Math Olympiad (IMO) is the world’s championship problem-solving competition for talented high school mathematicians. It attracts students from over 100 countries each year, with each participating country having its own selection procedure for identifying suitable candidates to represent it at the tournament.

In Ghana, there are a series of selection tournaments which culminate into a National Finals Championship where ultimately, a team will be chosen among the top scoring national finalists to represent the country and compete at the IMO.

This particular journey starts with the MISE Problem-Solving Tournament, which is designed to help identify suitable candidates for the Olympiad and Research programs. Top scorers from this tournament are invited to a boot camp, where they are given training in advanced problem-solving and proof techniques — concepts that are usually not captured in the regular school curriculum. A proof-based exam at the end of the boot camp will shortlist the finalists, who then compete in the National Championship Team Selection test.

Ultimately, the top-scoring students in the National Championship will represent Ghana at the International Math Olympiad the following year.
